Spirituality and Religion Ain’t my Thing by Terveen Gill

I want to get one thing straight.

I’m not an atheist.

There is something out there greater than you and I.

What is it?

Now that’s the thing.

You are already set in your beliefs.

That’s where we differ.

I have none. For me that something out there could be anything.

How about that favorite pet – Cuddles or Fido?

Where do you think they went after death?

To pet heaven?

Awww! That’s so sweet.

But what if that greater something is the fusion of all those favorite pets that left the world to create something better up there.

Those meows and woofs and even the quacks and moos.

Innocent souls that united to create a jiving and harmonious power.

I see those pitchforks coming at me.

Where have I offended you?

Ahhh! I see. Pets are adored only till they are beneath the status of their owners.

Any thought of worshipping an animal or bird makes you want to question your own importance.

You aren’t important. I hope you know that.

No religious text echoes what I say. None will second my assertions.

But I want to clarify that I have no evidence supporting my claims.

In fact, my claims change every other day.

Have you heard my theory on aliens? Oh that could put you in a sour mood.

You might even want to smack me.

Be my guest. But what if they are the ones pulling the strings? The ones you fold your hands and pray to every night.

Intelligent beings that happened to see an opportunity and are exploiting earthlings simply to pass their idle time.

How about clowns and midgets? That’s an uncomfortable concept I’m still exploring. And I’m sure you won’t be the ones having the last laugh.

Thanks for joining me at Spirituality and Religion Ain’t my Thing!

I’ll be back next week with a refreshing take on the ten commandments. Prepare to be scandalized.

This has been a great year of blogging. A shout out to my two loyal followers.

Granny, I love you!

Harold, stop stalking me or I will report you!

  1. Oh I loved it. Unapologetic indeed. Why apologize anyway? To whom? To people who follow a certain belief-system, or the God himself. What if I worship a God who’s like a ********** and has created the world out of his ******** just to ********. And if all those 300 religions call others pagans, then they’re all pagans to me too. Wait till you hear about the 13 commandments in my religion…:)) Thanks for sparking this insanity in me.

    1. Haha! Thanks so much, Sundaram, for the very passionate and wise response. It’s no one’s place to judge another and if certain individuals are happy in their ways, then let’s not intrude in their space. Live and let live, think and let think – religion is a man-made concept that influences many to get carried away. 13 commandments – I’m sure there’s a story to tell here. Appreciate it!

    1. Thank you so much, Diti. I think the mind needs to shatter certain barriers created by us and our conditioning. It would definitely dissolve many egos and create a more congenial atmosphere. To what we don’t know but don’t mind giving shape to anyway. Take care and much gratitude. 🙂

  2. Oh boy, images of that ancient aliens «scientist» come to mind, as well as the Pastafarians (Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster) and others. As weird as some of this stuff gets, you’ve gotta admit some folks have the «zealot» part down to an artform. Personally, I like the idea of benevolent dogs ruling heaven (and making sure cats stay in hell where they belong). 😀 (I crack myself up.) Um…actually, I love cats, too…yep, I sure do… *glances around furtively, checks under bed for furry ankle-biters* Terveen, you’ve got an amazing sense of humor, and your tales always have some salient point. I seriously can’t wait for your next story. 🙂

    1. Haha! You’re so right about the cats, Mike. It’s like one look from them could burn a hole in a person’s soul. Faith and belief should remain something close to one’s own heart instead of becoming a propaganda that washes away the logic of so many. Maybe they’re the ones who deserve to be ushered on by the cat. Lol. Thanks for your funny and wise comments. You’re so good at putting thoughts and words together. Take care. 🙂
