Honor A Soldier’s Sacrifice, Tribute

BBYCGN By Tamara Yancosky

BBYCGN, Honoring Soldiers, poem, sketch

The eagle sang

through tears of azure light,

‘’Honor a soldier’s sacrifice by living right

’cause a hero paid for your freedom with his blood

after he and his wife exchanged anniversary gifts last Monday night.’’

.

The eagle reminded me to not freeze or flight,

‘’But breath a life of love

by living just in God’s sight,

’cause a hero paid for your freedom with her blood

after making summer plans with her family just Tuesday night.’’

.

Our offspring march toward

an unknown enemy’s

unwarranted smite

for freedom

and basic human rights.

.

The eagle’s words transfixed my thoughts into heaving sighs

blurring my vision

while gripping my heart’s empty-nest blight,

’cause a hero paid for my freedom with his blood

‘’After buying a new video game with bro only Wednesday night.’’

.
Our heroic soldiers

filled with youthful might

fade away from our protective side

as our languished egos

step down from great heights.

.

The eagle encouraged me to not hide

nor permit my core strength to decline,

‘’But seal your heart; don’t leave it split wide,

’cause a hero paid for your freedom by her blood

after their first child’s birthday party on Thursday night.’’

.

While our children honor their country

and face enemy attack from perceived slights,

humbled mothers kneel

clasping their hands tight

while their tight-fisted knuckles gleam in white.

.

The eagle sang a crystalline melody

in its tribute to all heroes worldwide,

‘‘Respect a soldier’s sacrifice by living right,

’cause a hero paid for your freedom with his blood

on a pepperoni pizza Friday night.’’

.

Navigating unknown terrain,

plans are revised;

flashbacks intrude upon each soldier’s mind:

playing hide n’ seek and games of tag,

as a default, time always yearns to rewind.

.

The eagle stood tall with feathers

blazing white,

‘’Honor a soldier’s sacrifice by living right

‘cause a hero paid for your freedom by her blood

after a swimming pool party earlier Saturdaynight.’’

.

The eagle displayed the mission on a scroll for which fallen heroes signed

and produced images of families praying on the sidelines,

‘’Make a soldier’s life count by living right

‘cause a hero paid for your freedom with his blood

as a Hand-reached-down-from-The-Heavens on Sunday night.’’
